Police Failure Results in Death and $1 Million Award to Family
The family of a Hinds County woman who was murdered in a 2014 burglary was awarded $1 million by a Circuit Court jury. The lawsuit that led to this judgment stated that the victim called 911 to report a prowler, the 911 dispatcher failed to keep her on the line, the dispatcher failed to ask the location of the prowler and whether the victim could see the prowler. The suit went on to explain that the officers dispatched to residence failed to make contact with the victim and failed to search the perimeter of her residence prior to leaving.
