Texas Cop Found Guilty of Murder
Roy Oliver, a former police officer in Balch Springs, TX, was found guilty of murder on Tuesday in the shooting of unarmed teen Jordan Edwards. The teen and four other young men, including two of his brothers, had been been leaving a house party in April 2017 when the police officer discharged his police rifle multiple times into the vehicle. Edwards was struck in the head with one of the rounds and he subsequently died due to the injury. Police Chief Jonathan Haber initially stood behind Oliver, but he did quickly recant his statement that the car had been reversing aggressively toward Oliver when body cam footage was reviewed. Oliver was fired from the department shortly after the tragic event.
