Cancer Doctor Awarded $1.2 Million In Police Brutality Case

A jury has awarded $1.2 million in a lawsuit in which a prominent cancer doctor was supposedly manhandled by a New York City cop before she clipped him with her car. Dr. Wellner had sued the NYPD, claiming she was the victim of excessive force during a 2016 traffic stop that ultimately ended with her being arrested for injuring the officer.

It wasn’t immediately clear how the jury determined the officer had used excessive force or why she was awarded $1.2 million.
